Antique French Louis XVI-style two-seater sofa with carved wood detailing
An elegant antique French two-seater sofa in the Louis XVI style, featuring distinctive wood carvings and a classic, symmetrical silhouette. A refined example of French furniture design, combining luxurious decorative details, the warmth of natural wood and understated aristocratic elegance.
The sofa features a solid wood frame with delicate, hand-carved ornamentation, fluted legs and elegantly curved armrests. Decorative acanthus leaf carvings, fine geometric details and metal nailhead trim give it a distinctive character. The seat and backrest are upholstered in a textured, velvety fabric in a muted teal shade, beautifully contrasting with the warm wood tones.
The Louis XVI style emerged in France in the second half of the 18th century, drawing inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman art. It is characterised by symmetrical proportions, straight lines, decorative wood carvings and refined details. Furniture in this style continued to be made throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
The sofa has not been restored and retains its authentic vintage character. The upholstery has been professionally dry-cleaned, and the wooden frame has been reglued. The original finish retains signs of use consistent with its age.
This elegant sofa will complement classic, modern or eclectic interiors alike. A beautiful accent for a living room, bedroom or spacious hallway, bringing French elegance, a sense of history and distinctive character to the space.
