Vintage Kosta Boda bowl, Sweden, 1960s

Authentic 1960s hand-blown bowl from Boda Glasbruk (later Kosta Boda). A heavy, ice-textured glass piece with a wavy rim and embossed folk-inspired motifs depicting carts with sun-wheel symbols. Each example is unique, featuring air bubbles and an intentionally uneven surface. Perfect as a fruit bowl, nut dish, or purely as a sculptural decorative object.

When designer Erik Höglund joined Boda in 1953, he rejected polished luxury aesthetics. Instead, he aimed for glass that felt raw and elemental—like earth rather than palace décor. This led to the famous “isglas” (ice glass) technique, where molten glass was repeatedly heated and cooled to create a cracked, frost-like surface resembling spring ice.

These bowls were produced from the late 1950s through the 1960s and became internationally recognized, making Boda famous worldwide. After the merger with Kosta in the 1970s, they are often found on the market as “Kosta Boda by Erik Höglund” pieces and are now highly sought after by collectors.

Size: height 10 cm, diameter 19 cm. Price: 35 EUR.
