Vintage crystal candle holder Arkipelago, Timo Sarpaneva | Iittala, Finland, 1980s

An exquisite vintage Arkipelago glass candle holder, created for the Finnish glass manufacturer Iittala by world-renowned designer Timo Sarpaneva (1926–2006).

This sculptural glass design piece is inspired by the natural landscapes of the Finnish archipelago — icy scenery, snow-covered shores and the raw beauty of Nordic nature. The candle holder’s organic shapes, pronounced relief texture and solid, transparent glass create a distinctive interplay of light and shadow.

Timo Sarpaneva is one of the most important designers of Scandinavian modernism, whose work has earned international acclaim. He worked in art glass, textiles and graphic design, and also created Iittala’s iconic “i” logo. Throughout his career, the designer received several prestigious awards, including the Lunning Prize and awards at the Milan Triennale.

With its sculptural form and timeless aesthetic, the Arkipelago candle holder fits beautifully into minimalist Scandinavian, modern or eclectic interiors. It makes an elegant table decoration and a special addition to a collection of Finnish design glass.
